Fatty Liver Disease Diet

Fatty liver disease diet: breakfast

Fatty liver disease dietYour fatty liver disease diet should include a breakfast, it is important so do not miss it out, if you do you will find yourself snacking (probably on rubbish) before lunch.

Try to cut out anything fatty like bacon and sausages and stick to good wholesome food that is going to keep you full until lunch.

My breakfast diet plan includes porridge mixed with honey along with a nice hot cup of green tea with lemon in it, it doesn't sound great but I have become to enjoy it.

On a weekend as a treat (which is usually just on Saturday) I have a poached egg sandwich; I sometimes have the eggs on muffins as a change.

At the very start of my diet I was also taking milk thistle tablets because I read on the Internet that they were good for someone with non alcoholic fatty liver disease. I have no idea if they did me any good and I only took them for one month and do not take them any more.

Fatty liver disease diet: lunch

Fatty liver disease diet lunchBecause of the nature of my work I am out and about most of the time on the road so Monday to Friday I have to eat sandwiches for my fatty liver disease diet lunch.

When I am buying the filling for my sandwiches at the supermarket I look at the fat content on the packet, I choose the less fatty meats for my filling.

I always have two brown wholemeal bread buns, I switch meat but most of the time I have chicken or turkey in my diet.

I read somewhere that the liver absolutely loves carrots so I included carrot sticks in my lunch along with a low fat yoghurt drink and some raisins, a banana and sometimes an orange and a cereal bar.

Every now and again when I get sick of sandwiches I have a pasta salad or take a low fat soup in my flask. This diet certainly helped me with the disease and I lost quite a bit of weight doing it.

Before I was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver disease I was eating lots of cheese in my sandwiches and was just eating rubbish with it like crisps and drinking lots of sugary drinks, I cut all this out.

Fatty liver disease diet: dinner

Fatty liver disease diet dinnerMy fatty liver disease diet dinner includes a lot of wholemeal pasta and rice and I also enjoy vegetable casseroles on a regular basis, and you've guessed it, with lots of carrots in.

To stop the fatty deposits on my liver I also cut out eating a lot of fatty red meat in my diet, I replaced it with Quorn.

At first I wasn't too pleased about the idea when my partner suggested it but I was going to beat the disease so I gave it a go and it's actually quite nice.

There are so many different recipes to choose from and there are some really great healthy Quorn recipes that you should take a look at over on their website.

Just because you have to lose weight and improve your diet doesn't mean you have to eat bland boring food.

The Quorn spaghetti Bolognese is one of my favourites as is the Quorn meat free chicken tikka masala, it actually does taste like chicken, you should at least give it a try.

Fatty liver disease diet: snacks

Fatty liver disease diet snacksIf I get peckish in-between meals then I would chomp down on some carrot sticks or have a little box of raisins.

Just because you are on a diet doesn't mean that you can't have snacks, just keep away from all things fatty and stick with fruit and vegetables.

Something you should keep in mind while selecting food for your fatty liver disease diet is that the maximum amount of fat you can eat daily is 70g.

If you are going to do something to help your liver beat the disease then you need to keep on top of the amount of fat you are eating.

You should also be aware that you do need fat on a daily basis with a minimum of 32g recommended for most adults. If you are dieting like we are then you should try not to exceed 50g of fat daily.

I am not telling you to do this and I am not a doctor and a doctor did not tell me to do this diet it is just something I put together myself as a sufferer of non alcoholic fatty liver disease, it worked for me so I thought I would log it and it might help you too or at least give you some ideas.

What else you should do along side this fatty liver disease diet

What else you should do along side this fatty liver disease dietAs well as a good fatty liver disease diet plan you are also going to have to do some form of exercise.

I was determined to get rid of the fatty deposits on my liver and was going to beat the disease so I did some exercise along side the healthy diet.

All I did was grab one of my partners fitness DVDs (she has loads of them) and I did it for around 30 mins every other night, I say did because when I got down to my ideal weight I stopped doing it but you should keep going if you want to.

The DVD I used is called Jillian Michaels: 30 Day Shred and let me tell you I was not fit at all and I was able to do it.

The good thing about this exercise DVD is that it is split into three sections, which does get more difficult as your fitness improves.

Just keep in kind that this is a long term lifestyle change that you are making, it has to be for the long term but it is worth doing and you do feel a whole lot better for doing it.
